A gantry crane is a specific type of overhead crane that is employed for the shifting of a lot of load from one location to another within a particular work area. Unlike other overhead cranes, gantry cranes have their legs raised and are not mounted on the building support structure commonly seen with other cranes. These cranes are used most often in sectors where there are large and heavy materials that would be required to be transported on regular basis, but permanent installations of cranes are not really possible or required.
